All items of a historical nature will be found from this page. Articles on the
history of the team are the obvious source, but you will also find a year by
year summary of seasons gone past. Highlights, lowlights, goal scorers, honours
won by the team and league tables will all be listed here.
First of all here is a brief introduction to the team.
Whitburn Juniors play in the East Region Junior Football league division A.
They play at
Central Park
which, as the name suggests, is in the centre of town slightly south east of
the cross. The team was formed in 1934 and until the last twenty or so years
had fairly limited success, continually going between the lower and the upper
divisions. Their main claim to fame during these times had been a losing
Scottish Junior Cup final in 1966.
During the last two decades they have enjoyed much better success, remaining in
the top East region division throughout with a string of League championships.
The resurgence began in 1984 when they were promoted as runners up with
Bonnyrigg Rose as champions. The following year the two teams achieved the same
positions in the upper league - quite a feat! Altogether the team have achieved
6 League titles since 1986.
Seemingly inspired by this success and hungry for more, the club went from
strength to strength and are now amongst the top junior teams in the land. They
have been the most consistent East Region team in the Scottish Cup with a
succession of quarter final and semi final appearances. They went one better in
1995, unfortunately losing out against East Region rivals Camelon.
The team colours are claret and amber, like those of Motherwell FC of the
Premier league.
This section will be ongoing as I find out more and more about the team through
various researches. Any information that can carry this on will be gratefully
received. Thanks should also go to the stalwarts of the Supporters club who
have provided me with much help, in particular mention should be made of Ian
McLeish who keeps meticulous records of the games.
